Our Rector

St. Peter's Welcomes Rev. Dr. Jay Geisler

St. Peter's is pleased to welcome The Reverend Dr. William "Jay" Geisler, who began serving as our rector on January 1, 2011.

About Reverend Geisler

Reverend Geisler is a native Pittsburgher.  In a town with its roots in the steel industry, he spent his early years after college working as a production planning supervisor for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation.

Feeling a call to the priesthood, he received his Masters of Divinity/Masters of Theology in 1985 and became a priest and parochial vicar at St. Titus Catholic Church.  Later, he became an Episcopal priest and has ministered as a priest and rector in the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh since 1997.  He received his Doctorate in Ministry from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1999.  Most recently, Reverend Geisler was the rector of St. Stephen's in McKeesport, while also serving as Chaplain to the Heartland Hospice.

Reverend Geisler views his strengths as leadership, team building, communication, organization, and teaching.  He is an adjunct professor at Trinity School for Ministry.  He has ministered to the addicted and chemically dependent.  He is deeply committed to mentoring and developing church leaders, and considers himself blessed to have helped equip ten priests and three deacons for the ministry over the past ten years.  He was recently appointed Canon for Formation by the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, where he will work to raise up young priests and deacons as future church leaders.  Reverend Geisler also hosts a radio talk show called "Focus on the Mon Valley".

Reverend Geisler is married to Jennie Geisler, who works as a marriage and family counselor.  Jay and Jennie have two daughters.  Their older daughter recently graduated from high school and is currently serving in AmeriCorps.  Their younger daughter is in eighth grade.
