Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:38-42)
What's in a Name?
The women of St. Peter's believe the Mary & Martha Group is aptly named, for their activities reflect the value of both women.
Martha is regarded as a homemaker concerned with the details of running a household and providing the best in hospitality. Mary, who sat and listened to Jesus, is regarded as a spiritual woman and one who valued education.
Join Us at our Next Mary & Martha Group Event!
All women at St. Peter's are welcome to join the Mary & Martha Group and help serve the members of our parish, create a hospitable place for guests and visitors, support the education of our children, and grow in our own knowledge of -- and faith in -- the Lord.
