Race Against Hunger

The Race Against Hunger

FAST FACT:  Of the 370,000 people in our 12-county region who suffer from some form of hunger, 50,000 are children who either go to bed hungry or go to school hungry.

To combat this problem, the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh has joined with the Southwestern PA Food Security Partnership in an effort to reduce hunger by half.

The Race Against Hunger is a friendly competition pitting groups of parishes against each other in a race to earn the most points by making or collecting food donations, volunteering at local food pantries, and participating in other hunger-busting activities.

The Teams:

The Red Team

Parishes in Districts 1 (north) and 3 (south, including St. Peter’s)

The Blue Team

Parishes in Districts 2 (central) and 4 (east)

When

The race officially kicked off on July 1 and runs through the end of October.

Watch for opportunities to participate.

Our outreach team will be organizing several point-producing activities over the next several months.  So be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for your chance to contribute to this very important cause.

Note:  If you independently support any hunger-related causes (for example, if you volunteer regularly at a food bank or Meals On Wheels), consider reporting your time and contributions to the outreach team, as these can also be counted in our point totals.
